The drop rate seems to be 50% now, so it is a common drop. The mob itself is zonewide very rare but just uncommon (~11%) within its spawn cycle. There are mobs in South Karana that are way more rare than Quillmane.

PHers
# Apr 05 2015 at 9:34 AM Rating: Decent
Hello,

i camped this cloak for a while... and the hardest part is to find the PH-line for this named: Quillmane.
Forget about 72 Sek, its around 62-66 Sek. And many named got this Respawn time on their PHers.

I just killed everything that could be PH, most propably 1st.
This PH i got:

an escaped Gnoll - common
lion - common
mist wolf - common
an elefant - common
lioness - common
centaur courser - rare
aviak rook - rare
aviak darter - rare

If you got Quillmane its kinda easy if you have a tracker with 300 Tracking. Just kill the respawn, but only the possible PHers.
I killed 20 Gnolls, that cannot be PH, so i have a long list of Gnolls in list. Only whats above the list of gnolls could be PH.

Quill and his PHers only spawn south of the Dungeon (Splitpaw), but they roam the whole zone !

If you got a named: DON'T KILL HIM !
His PHers can be the same as for Quill.

Great write up.

In my camp, of which I got 5 Quillmanes in about an hour until I got the cloak.

an elephant is probably the most important spawn. Kill any of these you see. Not the calf, Adult, or Bull, just plain 'ol an elephant.
Other PHers I saw were:
a lioness
an escaped splitpaw gnoll
an aviak darter
a mist wolf
an aviak egret
a shadow wolf
a lion

EVERY PH AND QUILLMANE spawned SOUTH of Splitpaw, at least in my camp. I'm pretty sure if you draw an imaginary line across the zone at Splitpaw, and only kill PHers that spawn below that line, that gives you another filter to weed out the trash. However, as you're looking for the PH, you'll have to kill any of the PHers anywhere in the zone.

Been searching high and low for Quillmane for about a week now, helping a friend with his mage epic. Tried the 78 sec timer..didnt work for me. Starting to wonder if this quest is bugged. No one else in zone else I figure someone poaching. Sooo...I will keep searching but if anyone happens to have a spare Pegasus cloak on FV server..shoot me a tell or email.. Ariadwen

This is stupid already. I have been on my second mage trying to get the cloak with no luck. I have no tracker and don't think it should be such a pain in the *** to have a tracker for this mob. Why don't they just up the spawn timer? I mean, really, it's beyond stupid to have to camp this mob forever with little chance of a drop.

As far as the 78 second timer, I call bullcrap. I have been sitting south of SP and tried it, and it seems to not even work. 5 hours with no Quillmane spawn?

Without Track
# May 18 2009 at 11:36 AM Rating: Decent
Dropped for me today on Al'Kabor. Just FYI, this can be done without track (like I did) but it is time consuming. Here's how:

I followed Echelon's guide, and for non-trackers the best strategy for me was to stay near the western wall (where most of the PHs pop) between the Aviak town and Paw. Staying on the 78sec timer isn't really feasible, but just stay in that area and kill every lion/lioness and an elephant, plus (rarely) treants if you see them. Calves are not on her PH list, not sure about aviaks and centaurs - I killed them occasionally, but not as ritually as the elephants and cats. You'll get Quillmane eventually, she usually paths North in that area.

Good luck!

I have tried to do the 78 sec timer routine.Maybe i am doing something wrong here, Whats has worked though is sitting south entrance of SP with my druid,While my mage runs around killing anything that moves except for named mobs.I manage to spawn the nasty horse four times in about 5 hours. All four dropped pants (sigh). If anyone on the drinal server can give me some advice i would be happy to hear it. Toon names are Wecoan 57 mage and Greenwood 57 druid thx.

I decided finally, after so many years of overlooking this great clicky item, to give it a try. Thank you Echelon for posting your guide! For those of you attempting this DO NOT overlook the importance of "the two PH's"(always roamers and animals ie. elephant calf, werewolf, lioness) ... USE A TRACKER as he stated and have the tracker use "normal mode" so he can see(in that mode) the most recent spawns!!! Park your guys who want the cloak at Splitpaw. Let the tracker do the rest! If he has read Echelon's guide he will know that the "two most recently spawned roaming animal mobs" are the ones to kill repeatedly.

Basically, just have your tracker run north/south of the splitpaw entrance and kill any animals that are pathing and you WILL spawn the horsie over and over. Be patient. Legs are the common drop, of course the cloak is the rare. Good luck! Got mine today and for 2 of my alts as well!

Ok, so my wife is a mage going for 1.0 and i'm trying to help. I have a 67 cleric, and she is a 65 mage. Can anyone tell me what has to be done? Not how you have done it, or what works best, but simply what needs to be done to get that silly horse to pop?

After many many kills of Quillmane, far and above what is normal, here is my final guide. Fabled time is coming soon, and many people will be looking for a way to get the Fabled Cloak. As for why a Ranger needs one anyway? Well, how many times have you been stuck in a dungeon environment, and can't cast SoE? One click and boom! Floating again ! Okay, my list of PH's, after having refined the list for a year now is as follows -:- a lion, a lioness, a mist wolf, a shadow wolf, a cyclops, an undead cyclops, an aviak egret, an escaped splitpaw gnoll, a splitpaw gnoll, a centaur charger, a centaur courser, an elephant (only < an elephant > ), a werewolf (not part of the cycle really, but he does kill the cycle mobs, and throws off the spawn),,, I kill everything South of SplitPaw and ignore anything else. If I run for it on track, and see myself above Paw, I just turn around. I kill every one of those mobs. I kill every named, I kill any gnoll who attacks me. All it takes is patience. If someone comes in wiping the zone, I just leave and come back. I can get Quillmane no problem, and if they aren't willing to help, I just leave. As for anyone on Cazic-Thule Server, if you need one, send me a tell in game. I MQ these all the time, no charge. Looting rights is a different story, since it is a PITA to get to S Karana in 7 minutes before the cloak rots. I hope this helps, and good luck ! Placeholders (an elephant is the key)

78-sec timer. Keep yr tracker at neg 4726, neg 224 (ranger track at 200 will cover entire quill/ph spawn area from that loc)

NOT PH's
adult elephants
bull elephants
elephant calves
undead cyclops
Tesch gnolls
any nameds, i.e., Cracktusk, Grizzleknot, Gnawfang, Singer Foxfire, etc (leave them up, do not kill them)

PH's
lions (very common)
escaped gnolls (very common)
an elephant (very important to kill this)
lioness
mist wolf
shadow wolf
cyclops
treant (rare)
rooks (rare and possibly other aviaks)
archers (rare and other centaurs)

One important thing i have noticed is *an elephant*. An elephant will always lead to either Quill or Cracktusk. So once u kill the elephant, kill the next mob that spawns on the 78-sec timer; Eventually Quill (or Cracktusk) will spawn. If Cracktusk spawns, leave him up and keep killing lions and escapeds, etc till u get another elephant to spawn. That one is sure to lead to Quill.

Quill can spawn in many many locations south of Splitpaw. Once she spawns, she can go either north or south (although it is usually north). So yes, Ive zoned in and actually saw Quill by the Playground area (as well as her ph's). Her ph's do spawn south of Splitpaw but they do wander all the way north if not killed, but then they will travel back to the southern part of the zone.

# May 31 2007 at 6:14 AM Rating: Decent
This morning had a server reset, took a chance and headed straight for splitpaw..didn't kill anything..didn't see him up which such cause I didn't have a tracker. Came back here was reading went back to game and was parked right in front of splitpaw...and guess who..Oh, yes killed Quill and looted yay.
Weird...
# Aug 06 2007 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
I have used the method posted by RoninWare in the past and have never had the time or fortune to loot a cloak, that was until last week. His spawn method worked and on the 3rd Quillmane I was rewarded with my cloak.

Now the weird thing. I was the only person in the zone for the entire process. I got lucky and found the proper spawn within minutes and simply cleared it (and only it) many many times. On 3 occasions during my run, 2 mobs spawned instead of one mob. It was hard to tell which was my spawn so I killed them both until one started spawning non place holders. At this point I stayed with the one spawn. I had never seen this happen before and as mentioned I was the only person in the zone.

Also, a treant can be added to the PH list. After killing one Quill was the next spawn.
Weird...

yeah there are some mobs that just spawn randomly in SK, not on timers or anything.. as long as you keep the stopwatch/timer going from when you killed your last PH though, you should be sure which is the PH, just wait for the timer to hit 78 secs
Killed many times.

I had helped kill Fabled Quillmane twice before, and neither time did he drop his cloak. I decided to pull out my 31 ranger and spawn him, pulling him to the N. Karana zone before camping onto my mage.

It didn't work out like that.

A warrior was in the zone, killing things to spawn him, and I noticed on track that Fabled Quill was up. I called him over and he killed him while I camped onto my mage. Unfortunately, the cloak didn't drop and I forgot to tell him not to kill anything. I went around, killing the latest spawns, until I noticed a 78 second respawn. I started the cycle as a few friends came to help out (one a ranger). I killed a few, then I got on my mage after I told the ranger how to spawn Quill. A treant, a couple of centaurs, and a few other things spawned in the cycle. Fabled popped, and he dropped the cloak our first kill. We killed him again for another fabled cloak for the enchanter that came along, using the ranger to kill the thing that spawned 78 seconds after Fabled Quillmane died.

So that's how I killed Quillmane for this cloak. I'd recommend waiting until the Fabled spawns (anniversary event, for those that don't know) before killing him, and get some friends together, as he is TOUGH for his level, like all Fableds. I remember I once nuked him for around 700 hp, and while getting hit by 2 pets (1 a level 61, the other level 51), he dropped 3%.

Interesting note: Quillmane is a her, but Fabled Quillmane is an it. I use he, him, and his as a way to simplify things, especially since most people refer to Quillmane as a "he".

Okay, I have killed Quillmane probably 100 times so far, I have done the cloak MQ 17 times, and called friends in to loot the cloak 10... This is how I do it. Head south in S Karana, killing all the listed mobs,,, well, most of em anyways,,, lions, lionesses, egrets, cyclops, undead cyclops,,,,, also, on the list add centaur coursers,,, When you reach just a bit NE of aviak tower, a ph pops just a bit from Woran Soothsayer. Kill it, then every 72 seconds, a new mob pops,,, usually all mobs are south of Paw, so ignore anything north of it, also ignore any mobs not on the 72 second cycle,,, I have had Quillmane pop less then 10 minutes after entering the zone, and taken as long as 3 hours,,, but patience always gets him in the end. Nothing is rare if you are patient. Of course, if you aren't patient,,, I always have one in the bank for MQ, hehe,,, Send tells to Relican - Ranger - Cazic Thule Server,,,

Pegasus Cloak
# Oct 06 2006 at 8:40 PM Rating: Decent
Well I decided to try this 78 sec method finally, it worked. What I did was just randomly gank lions, lioness, aviaks, escaped split paw gnolls and shadow wolves. I generally stayed around the neg 4200 location someone mentioned on here, right near paw. Each time I killed one I set a different timer for it to check track for the 78 sec spawn which would pop at the top of the track list. The PHer was a lion/lioness 80% of the time and a escaped sp gnoll about 20% of the time. Anyway, it works. I spent 3 hours one day with 1 spawn then logged on the next day and spent 30 mins and bam cloak - case closed. Once you find the Pher and kill it, be sure to return to that neg 4200 ,(???) loc to retrack the next pop. Sometimes it will spawn far away and you wont see it pop on track when it respawns. Quillmane spawned once near Centaur merchants and the other along the zonewall behind paw. Good luck all, hope this helped some.
Thanks for the tip Z.

# Oct 11 2006 at 12:47 PM Rating: Decent
True, it's impossible without a tracker, but it's possible that all mobs on the cycle path through Paw, so if you keep killing everything that travels north/south through the spires, you can eventually pop Quillmane.

I've never had to kill gnolls on the cycle, though, except the escaped Splitpaw gnoll, and I've popped Quillmane probably 25 times (two cloaks, went to mages).
