How to raise Merchant Faction Easily
# Apr 27 2002 at 8:01 PM Rating: Excellent
FIRST:

Head out to WFP. There are two merchants part of the /Faydark's Champions/ faction:
- Pandos Flintside
- Jyle Windshot

If you are not AMIABLE to Jyle Windshot, you will need to see Pandos Flintside to raise it. His quest involves Muffins.

Just buy a bunch from some merchant in FP, and give them to him by 4s in each slot trade slot.

Once you have made amiable with Jyle, Go buy a bunch of /Small Lanterns/. Give them to Jyle. He will give you in return /Wood Chips/. I think he also gives you Treant Hearts. They are of no use to this quest.

Head over to Erudin's Toxx Forest. The first hut to your right when leaving Erudin is where you will find Emil Parsini.

To him, give the wood chips in stacks of 4s. This should raise Guard, High Council, and Merchant Faction.

This method worked even me. It raises Merchants of Erudin faction 5 points per wooden shard. It took me exactly 400 shards to maximize it.

I am not sure how many points it raises High Council of Erudin for each shard, but it seems less than 5, possibly 3 or 1.

The Bankers in Erudin are on Merchant faction, my faction with them went from threatening to ally. The merchants themselves of course never con below dubious.

I'm a 40 Dark Elf Wizard, Agnostic Belief. There is a 39 lvl spell I need. What faction(s) do I need to get inside Erudite and buy this spell? Hehe, I never been to Toxx before so I'm kinda of careful who I might run into. Any advise or help is greatly appreciated.

To RAISE Faction
# Dec 04 2001 at 11:49 AM Rating: Decent
Merchants faction can be raised by killing the thieves swimming in the bay. There are a couple there. Be careful not to kill the dwarf on the rocks though. Your faction with other groups will lower, but that can be repaired easily enough.

Woops, messed up guys. This won't work. Misread the faction hits on the kills... sorry... back to collection Odus Pearls.
This is not good...

Well, I did the Catman Alliance (or whatever it's called) quest 53 times (give or take a couple... I lost track at one point) until I was amiable to Peacekeepers and could get the Peacekeeper Staff quest. I had started off as Indifferent to Peacekeepers.

However, when I went out into Tox and handed in the note, I just get the standard "I will do nothing to aid beings like you" from Emil Parsini. He is dubious to me.

I tried it again while invis, but that didn't work either, of course, as the very act of opening a trade window with an NPC breaks your invis... you still have the icon, but you are NOT invis. This bug has been around forever, so the results weren't surprising.

So basically, due to the mis-information on this site about raising this faction, I wasted 4 hours doing that mindless Catman Alliance quest.... all for nothing. Bummer. At least I am amiable to Peacekeepers now -- although I haven't yet figured out what good that will do me.

Do yourself a favor... if Emil Parsini cons dubious or lower to you, DON'T bother raising your Peacekeepers faction, because it takes forever and apparently will do you no good at all toward gaining Merchants of Erudin faction.

Gonna re-post this under the Peacekeeper Staff quest as well.
RE: This is not good... ADDENDUM
# Jul 12 2001 at 11:09 AM Rating: Default
Well, I spent a few more hours working on this whole faction deal, and I have some better information to impart.

Emil Parsini will NOT accept the note for the Peacekeeper Staff if he's dubious, but he WILL accept wooden shards (from Treants or the Odus pearl quest).

Also, Beth Breadmaker will not accept store-bought muffins, but if you hail her, she will offer you the baked muffin quest or a the bread delivery quest. NOTE: These quests may just be offered as a part of the Plague in the Karanas storyline that is going on right now (as of 7/12/01), and may disappear when that storyline is over.

I have done the bread delivery quest about 20 times and turned in a few wooden shards to Emil, but I'm still dubious right now.

The bread delivery is easy for casters (especially if you're a wizard). Bind by Beth Breadmaker, gate or get ported to North Karana, run to South Karana and go to the Centaur village.

Give Jarlen Meadowgreen 2gp (or 20 silver or any combination that results in 2gp). He's at location pos 100, neg 2250, along with the other named centaurs.

When he receives the 2gp, he gives you a sack of bread to take to Beth Breadmaker (it looks like a bag of the tinkerers in your inventory). Gate back to Beth and hand her the sack. You don't need to hail anyone or use any key phrases to do this quest... give 2gp to one NPC, and give the sack to another. Pretty simple, except for the distance separating the 2 NPCs.

Also, Killing diseased sharks or Elial Brook will raise Deepwater Knight fraction not Peacekeepers.

Beth Breadmaker will give Merchant of Erudin fraction, if you make muffins for her if you are a baker or if you go to the karana's you can pick up some bread and return it to her, don't remember the name of person, but does increase merchant fraction.

The person to see to get the bread for this quest is Jerlan (spelling?) Meadowgreen, a centaur in the SK centaur town. Give him 2 gold (or the equivelent in other coin) and he will give you a lore (and no drop?) sack of bread loaves to deliver. this quest works for raising ogre merchant and guard faction as well by giving the loaves to Innkeep Morpa.
raising merchant faction

Give treant shards to Emil Parsini. This definitely works, and it's the only way I know to get it done. I had to go from scowling to indifferent to do business with the Raine in the Library (yes, she's on Merchant faction) and it took 50 shards and Alliance (enchanter spell) to do it. It may take a non-enchanter many more shards, but it can be done.

not true, there is a way to increase faction with the merchants of erudin. although, i believe that one has to be amiable to the peacekeepers to make it so.
if you work on the peacekeeper staff quest, you'll gain faction with the merchants of erudin.
happy hunting.

Warrens
# Mar 18 2001 at 2:37 PM Rating: Default
With the new zone, The Warrens, I know you gain faction with both Paineel and Erudin, but I believe it is only the gaurds. So high level guys, if you need better faction, run in The Warrens and slaughter the Kobolds and see what it does for your faction. Not much, probably wont help much, but go ahead and check it out.

I had a small accident with Ice Comet and an Erudian guard waaaaay back when...heh..
Anyway i've been unable to buy anything in my own home city since then so i'd hoped with new warrens zone I could go AE my way to better faction, but no dice. It raises faction with guards okay but does nothing for the merchants.
