Don't kill them if you can avoid it!

Brownies of Faydwer is one of those faction where once you lose it, there is no way of getting it back. I know those damn brownie scouts in L-Fay are a total PITA, but it's better to zone if you can, rather than kill them and lose faction.

My brothers ranger has activly hunted brownies in Lfay and steamfont, though he isn't max KoS with them. When I got my chanter to 39, he went and bot all of the rest of the spells from them in wolf form. He may not have gottent he best prices, but that doesn't matter much.
Killing them doesn't seem to matter if you go in druid or ranger wolf form, it seems to nutralize your faction with a lot of MPCs (if you are ally with an NPC and then cast wolf form you usually will goto indiffrent wit them, like you were invisable.

Just make shure to scratch the fleas off before you go into their camp, that may help.

So I'm in my lower lvls and I'm doing my newbie armor quest when suddenly I read the list of ingredients and brownie parts, brownie leg, and a brownie brain shows up...

Well a few lvls have passed from then and I'm going to Lfay to get my thicken mana line of spells... I cast Illusion: Earth Elemental on me and cast Benevolence on one of the brownie guards...

And what do I get... NOTHING!!! not even death! they wont sell nor will they kill.

So now I'm thinking of starting a druid or another enchanter and this time there will be no killing of the brownies...

I had a druid cast wolf illusion on me, they seem to like the wolves. tried it again when I got high enough to get my own wolf illusion - spirit wolf, and they liked me.

Is there nothing that will raise your faction with these little guys?
RE: Faction
# Jul 10 2003 at 12:17 PM Rating: Decent
They no longer will sell to you in Earth Elemental illusion or Spirit Wolf. I've tried Collaboration as well. Nothing is working with these little punks of the forest. I've been very careful never to kill them since I need to be able to purchase spells.

Nope there is no way to raise Brownie faction, but they do like wolf form and I understand they also like earth elementals.

When did these lovely blighters appear in gfay? I've raised a bard, a druid, and a chanter in gfay, and I hadn't seen any. Although I was trapped in lfay for an hour trying to recover my bard's body...

Very rare. I was looking for my corpse on my first char (ranger fell out of kele), and this lil' bugger attacked me. I looked at the name and it was A Brownie Scout. I died laughing.

Went into Steamfont Mountains today and encountered one of these little schmucks, conned even with the 9th lvl bard. Of course the anti-social little bugger started hitting us from behind while we were fighting a mountain lion. Needless to say they are spreading...

yes i know they are a pain everyones scared of these lil things but ive just recently learned something that may be of interest to everyone . correct me if im wrong though. two friends and myself were doing the 4 bandit sisters quest in Lfay and we had all gotten our set of beads and were heading back when out of nowhere ... yes a brownie cam up and rooted my friend i tried to wack it before it could cat summin but didnt stun it at all. killed one of my friends(wood elf druid) and myself (vah shir rog) but oddly enough didnt kill our other friend (high elf cleric i believe) anyways she never ran. actually she ended up dragging our corpses to the zone for us because they wouldnt let us anywere near them. and none of those times did they attack our high elf friend, basically if u want to be good friends with them becoam a high elf

More info,
usual story,
my L10 wood elf ranger and L10 wood elf warrior friend got lost 1st time in Lesser Fay, rooted near brownie camp by brownie scout and lasted about 5 seconds each.
But Our L14 High Elf Enchanter friend was able to drag our corpses back no worries. Coincidence?

Hehe, I read all these posts and laughed, cause I've been through it all. I'm a person who is obsessed with bards, made 5 different ones in the future, all wood/half elves (DOWN WITH HUMANS!) and those little buggers scare the living daylights outta me. Even with MM drums they can root and snare ya and make quick work outta ya, so if you see "A brownie outcast begins to cast a spell", run the hell outta there!

. People love to complain about dying, but really; in this game, death of the PC is extremely rare in comparison to the number of kills he or she makes. Death is subtle, it sneaks up on you when you least expect it. So just expect it - especially with the brownies :)

Just because you can roam around in dog form without being hurt doesn't mean you should make fun of others. In any case what do they con to wolves? And I'm assuming that if you kill these Brownies enough even wolf form won't save you?
I hate BROWNIES!! But dosen't everyone?
# Oct 14 2001 at 7:28 PM Rating: Default
Ok I only was a lvl 4 enchanter. And I decided to go exploring with a cleric friend. So we went into Lfay. Didn't think anything could hurt us. We spent about 30mins in there killing the wasps and the wolfs. (Lucky us din't even meet a shadow dude )So we were looking for more wasps and stuff. When I heard my friend so HELP then I turned around and I saw her fall. I was like WTF? Suddenly a little brown dot soomed up to me and then your body compulse with lighting you take 243 Damage

LOADING PLEASE WAIT...

Then I got pissed and I got my corpse with invis. Then like 1 month later. I created a woodelf ranger. So I was walking near the bandit camp looking to track stuff, when a brownie scout appeared on track. I was so freaking scared, realising that like there were brownies here TO?? But then I noticed that it was green, I tracked it and I killed the little **** in one kick. And I got some brownie parts ) So now I'm pretty happy with my little sweet revenge.

# Jul 17 2001 at 5:34 AM Rating: Default
I have a lvl 45 ranger, and a lupine dager, I also have the tolan's BP, So I can teleport there, Only thing holding me back are thoes little vile creatures. I'll admit in Gfay I saw one, so I killed it!
What you all think I should do? Befour I port get my lupine dager to proc for Greater wolf form, Then teleport there. So I'm not KOS. Or wait till im higher lvl so If i do get attacked I can whip thoes little suckers!
PS: Good luck on the chacolate "evil grin"
RE: To teleport or not to teleport!
# Nov 08 2001 at 6:17 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm... I don't believe you would port in near the brownies, so no fear of being overrun. And if you're SoWed before you go in, you can probably outrun any wandering singles that you chance upon (which are quite rare, anyway). As a last resort, at 45, you SHOULD be able to handle a single brownie.
Brownies and KOS
# Jul 15 2001 at 9:57 AM Rating: Decent
I'm convinced they hate everyone.
I remember taking my (then) 11 paladin dwarf in to LFay to go to Steamfont and getting lost. I walked around a corner past a building and <splat> one hit and that was it. I've never gone back. Taught me to leave at home expensive items I didn't need at the time ;)
RE: Brownies and KOS
# Mar 07 2002 at 11:04 AM Rating: Default
If you mean everyone as in, everyone that isn't in some form or another yes, otherwise, no. They aren't KOS to wolves (Wolf Form) and they arn't KOS to most Enchanters in Earth Elemental form (though if you aren't agnostic they are dubious). Being Enchanters actually NEED to go right into the Brownie camp it's a good thing there are a few things that make you non KOS to Brownies.

Running Tree????
# Jun 07 2001 at 7:23 PM Rating: Decent
what's the running tree trick?
RE: Running Tree????
# Nov 28 2003 at 9:37 PM Rating: Decent
It used to be possible to cast Illusion:Tree, followed by Minor Illusion, and gain mobility as a tree. You'd get the standard message that your illusion didn't work because you're already in an altered form; however you'd become mobile while retaining tree form. Odd, because both minor illusion and tree illusion immobilize you; but that's how it was, for a long while. IT was handy because tree form made the brownies indifferent...that too has changed I believe.

Since the AA ability to cast illusion on others came in, most or all of the faction changes related to illusions have been nerfed. The new goodie they gave us came at a terrible cost.

I'm trying to get my guild to do a raid here. I am a ranger and need to kill the outcast brownies:) I figured some payback and brownie part harvesting would be nice too:) I have a alt at level 6 that has baking at 113 (soon to be raised) and there are several other bakers in my guild. It'll be FUN!!

Only thing that ever resisted Alliance
# Mar 07 2001 at 4:20 AM Rating: Excellent
I have NEVER had Alliance resisted by ANYTHING except a damn brownie guard. Around level 12 I tried alliance on one. I lasted long enough for him to zip over to me. Man those little suckers are fast. Little brown streak. SPLAT. One melee round.

"Wow, Alliance can be resisted? Gee, I didn't know that."
LOADING PLEASE WAIT.

I still cringe a little when I cast benevolence on all those other quest NPCs, like Clurg.
No longer do I believe it's totally safe.
But since then nothing at all as ever resisted and erased me, and I do a lot of quests.

Heh the Kael giants don't count, if you've read my posts about engraved bone pauldruns...They don't resist. They just decide to erase you anyway sometimes. Or used to...it seems lately they're more predictable. It could be I've just learned the exact ritual that works for that quest, and as long as I don't deviate I don't get whacked.

Anyway I advise young enchanters against using Alliance to try to get into Brownieville.
Be patient, wait for elemental illusion. Or if you know the running tree trick, use that, once you have Illusion:Tree at level 16.

The thicken mana line's not good for much anyway, so far. Not for anything you need to do before you're high enough to get the spells. Wu's gauntlets? (yawn)

I think it is very sad that in order to be a master baker you have to be totally powerful enough to kill these little twerps. The weak "A Brownie Scout" that you see in GFay are so pathetically rare that you can spend days and only get 2 or 3 brownie parts. Then if you go into the next zone as anyone under a level 50 you get your butt kicked. That's about the same as making all "hide" bearing animals in their 50's so tailors can't make leather armor.
RE: Brownie Parts
# Apr 13 2001 at 4:29 AM Rating: Decent
You can also get brownie parts off Nullipuss in Rivervale, he is lvl 17 and casts nothing in the way of spells. Best yet.. no faction loss!
