At lvl 70(and a few more spells to go) I use 3 HoTs, none of them snares you as the earlier ones do.
65 Breath of Trushar -
(quiescence is also 65 spell but heals for less, no root on either of them)
Shaman epic 1.5 group HoT
Ancestral Aid (link is lvl 3) Group HoT(mgb-able)
The HoT I still need is
Spiritual Serenity Heals, HoTs, DoTs and DDs, all can be improved with AAs.
DPS: depends on what group you're in. Some times you can just DoT away, making a lot of DPS, other times you have to watch out for aggro. I've been in groups where I am the dps, and other groups that there's really no need to cast a DoT, because the mob goes down so fast. And yes, same level, same mobs, in exactly same spot, almost same classes, but a huge difference in skill and gear.
<<<<For exact calculations on dps, or advice on AAs, or gear look up or whatever shaman info you need, go to
samanna.net (no www), if you can't find it there you can probably not find it anywhere.
>>>> Speaking of AAs, a very useful AA to get (along with many more of course) is Virulent Paralysis, knock back root. It's saved my life more times that I can count. Good for soloing as well.
I pull with malos, VP it, if mob summons I make sure to both have it slowed and have HoT on me, then cast usually about 4-5 DoTs, reaching more than 1600 damage per tick without AAs (
Curse of Sisslak 578,
Blood of Yoppa 450,
Blood of Saryn 332, and
Breath of Wunshi 223, not sure how much
Nectar of Pain is, somewhere between Yoppa and Saryn I believe. Lots of DPS...
With VP3 the button refresh before root breaks, so I can just keep an eye on that button and refresh DoTs and VP until mob is dead. Or VP an inc add for your group, keep it rooted while you DoT both your tanks mob and your own. Be careful, because the add will surely come for you if root breaks. And don't waste all your mana, your group will primarily want you for slows and fast heals =)
