Classes: The Druid

Druids - a powerful outdoor class. With the triple ability to heal, inflict direct damage and cast damage over time, druids are a popular solo class, as well as popular in a group. They are also a travelling class, given both sow and teleportation abilities.

How should you play your druid to make the best use of his abilities? What are the best solo strategies? How should the druid be played within a group? What spells are the most and least useful? What skills should you develop?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Druid and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

I'm hoping someone will answer a couple of questions about using the various "Succor" and "Circle" spells. Mainly ... (1) do I have to be in a certain range of the rest of the group for these spells to work? And (2) will they work for those people in the group who are engaged in melee? And (3) can I use a Succor or Circle to escape a summoning mob?

Until now, my 46 Halfling Druid has not needed to evac a group. I've mainly solo'd except for duoing spectres and aquatic goblins in South Ro with a warrior. In fact, I usually don't have the spells memorized when hunting.

Also welcome are any suggestions for what I might try to aggro kite next ... I've been kiting sand giants elite in North Ro (mostly for the coin and to improve my combat skills once the giants are low on hp) and they're about to turn green on me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

1. Yes your companions need to be close to you when you hit succor. Practice all you can on this. I have always made it one of my set spell icons. With the help of AA's once you get in your 50's you can add additional places for spell icons, under Archtype, Mnemonic Retention. Also you can use several AA's under Class, Exodus, Hastened Exodus. I know you think AA's are a long way off but succor and your porting spells are pretty slow without them.

2. Yes they work in melee if you can get them off. Give a tell to all in your group or make a hot key saying "Evac Incoming". One thing that I have always done as a druid is when going to into a zone is to see where the succor point is, one by actually hitting the spell,(you can always port back in) or two looking on the map most of them show the succor point.

3. Yes you can use any of them anytime, question is can you get it to cast in the meantime. Before my AA's I think Circle's take longer but you can tell by right clicking the icon and holding it. Shows in there your cast time. There is also gear that shortens some cast time. You should have had Lesser succor since lvl 18. If I remember that takes longer to cast then the Succor (Lv 57),always remember Egress (lvl 52) is a self evac.

Hope this helps and good luck flying the world of Norrath.

And keep in mind there is always a small chance that one group member could be left behind with Succor line of spells... and it could be you. When a gate collapses with a horde of upset mobs converging, well it just is not a pretty sight :)

Thanks much for the advice.

I'm 51 now and the elite sand giants are green and light blue still. So I'm hunting them for coin, AA's, Freeport faction (using the quest) and an occasional defiant weapon or armor drop. I can come back with 2-3K plats (coins and stuff) after a long hunt. The AAs are slow but I'm still poor and need the loot (and at least it's a hot zone).

The good thing is I financed my necro's Research studies and he was able to craft Vengeance of the Wild and Levitation 2 (much cheaper than buying it in the bazaar -- someone was asking 10K for Levitation 2! I'll have to try selling one or two for less :-).

I'm stocking up AA points for now (spent a few on Innate Wisdom). I'm also taking some time to start learning succor points. Porting to zones I have never been to and taking a look around, etc.

Thanks again,
Immel
