Classes: The Druid

Druids - a powerful outdoor class. With the triple ability to heal, inflict direct damage and cast damage over time, druids are a popular solo class, as well as popular in a group. They are also a travelling class, given both sow and teleportation abilities.

How should you play your druid to make the best use of his abilities? What are the best solo strategies? How should the druid be played within a group? What spells are the most and least useful? What skills should you develop?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Druid and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

The AA window is located on the bottom of your Inventory window, marked "Alt Adv".
In the upper right corner of the AA window is a selection switch indicating what percentage of your xp you would like to go to AA's. In a row across the top of the AA window, you will see tabs listed as "General", "Archetype", "Class", and "Special". These tabs will show you all of the AA's you are able to receive, all of these will have a level restriction. General will be 51 and up, Archetype 55+, Class 59+, Special are, well, special. Clicking on the names of each AA listed will give you a description and a level requirement.

Starting at level 51 you have the choice to apply your experience gains to either your standard levelling xp bar or to the AA xp bar which becomes available at that level. Alternate Advancement can boost your given abilities in nifty ways or even grant you new abilities. The amount of AA xp a mob is worth isn't the same as the amount of levelling xp it would give you, typically AA xp goes up faster than levelling xp. The higher level you are the easier it is usually to build AA.

Many AA require you to be a certain level and to have already purchased other AA (prerequisites). The first ones you will want to get are the General - Shadows of Luclin types that benefit you most. The ones most people get first are the run speed boost and the hp regen. You definately need 6 points spent in AA listed as General - Shadows of Luclin before you can get most of the Archetype ones that become available at level 55. You will need 12 points spent in Archetype - Shadows of Luclin before you can spend points on most of the Class aa at level 59.

Good AA for druids are Spell Casting Mastery (like stacking mana preservation), Spell Casting Fury (for spell crits), Exodus (instant succor), Innate Camo (aa invis), and well pretty much every AA has a use but those mainly for soloing. Group AA would be healing boosts and Radiant Cure. Higher level ones include DoT crit abilities and short HoT type buffs.

You will probably want to level to 55 or 59 before you start building AA since the ones you get at 51 aren't very exciting except the run speed for those without sow. Go ahead and split some xp to AA now though (maybe 70% normal and 30% aa) so you have a few points to spend when you get the levels.

levels > AA's ... level up a good bit. id say to like 65 before switching to AAs. exodus is good for groups an yourself( that insta succor).

radiant cure ownz. it'll remove a heap of bad spells on ya. ohh, an max it out before switching to another AA. id suggest the same for all yer abilities your able to. like the dot, an spell crits. if u do level 1 in each of em, it'll kinda suck an you'll never see it working much. but put a third level into just 1. an you'll see it pop up all the time. i used to swing an orb of forgotten magic on my druid, with some ldon proc in it. so i maxxed out my spell crits asap. cause it'll carry over onto weapon procs too. an i considered myself a fire druid. BURN! baby BURN!

innate camo is a must have. helps sooooo much. an clears up a spell slot. set that an exodus to some hotkeys.

ohh an id also say not to bother with dire charm. unless they make na upgrade. cause it sucks these days. an don't waste yer precious AA's on stats. like improved dex an the like. but the mana 1s are a good help. but my era was before ooc regen. so i dunno if theyre still a priority.

Grats on the leveling. but id keep at it. cause with levels under yer belt. u can always go AA'n in yer downtime easier with yer new spells.

ohh an if ya tradeskill at all. theres AA's for that too. so invest in them before ya go wasting precious resources... lol, like yer plat.

With respect to the last post, I think this really depends on your play style. Due to my schedule, my time zone, and my preference, I solo about 90% of the time. I love the AAs and believe these have made me a much more efficient Druid than I ever could be without them (I just turned level 63 and have about 150 AAs but have not yet been able to add any of the new level 63 AAs). Mana conservation, critical hits (YAY!), Wrath of the Wild, etc. etc. give me the ability to solo nasty critters that I would not be able to approach with spells and twinks alone. I even feel comfortable now in underground/dungeon zones where any Druid's natural abilities are obviously limited, thanks mainly to the greater efficiency granted by many of my AAs.

Also, there is SO much content in the game. I am not in a rush to get to the 70s. I would rather enjoy the many zones that gradually become playable as one advances. I would rather be the best little Druid I can be than be one of many high level though less efficient Druids one sees in the Guild Lobby and POK.

Again, though, I think it is all a matter of play styles and what you want to get out of adventuring in Norrath.
