Classes: The Paladin

Paladins - Icons of Virtue. The paladin combines the strength and battle prowess of a fighter with the healing and buffing of a cleric.

What is the best strategy for developing your paladin? Can a paladin be soloed, and if so, how? How should you play your paladin within a group? What skills should you concentrate on developing? What spells are most useful, and least useful? What armor and weapons should your paladin be seeking out?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Paladin and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Who would fill the last slot in a group

Ok, five slots are already filled. Cleric, warrior, ranger, wizard, and a enchater. Now the group already has a tank, healer, 2 dps, and a mezzer. Who would you prefer got the last slot? Another DPS or a tank (warrior, shadowknight, or paladin.)

I say paladin makes the best support class and I have several reasons.

Back-up tank. Something goes down and you got like 3 mobs attacking you. The paladin can stun a mob and take agro from another until the enchanter can mez.

Back-up healer. Something happens to the cleric, but the warrior will die before the cleric can pull off a CH. Paladins get special spells that have a fast casting time, but a lower hp heal, great to keep him alive until the cleric can heal.

**** goes down. The cleric or the enchanter are dieing fast and they are basically the only two classes that can save the group in the long run. Hand of Piety or LoH (possibly act of valor =D) and save one so they can crowd controll or heal the group, thus saving it.

Pulling. Paladins are really good at pulling. They may not be the best, but damn they are good.

Now paladins cannot necessarily be the best tank, but they are great to have in the group and can preform the jobs of the two classes he is made of when needed.

While a paladin as an off tank can be a nice thing to have, what you really need is a true puller (SK, Bard, Monk). Yes, paladins initally have the ability to pull, but they eventually lose this ability when you get to the higher content. You already have a ranger for peeling and they can usually back up tank to a certain degree (definitley long enough for a mezz to land).

Paladin has several good support abilities, but it looks like your group has a higher priority need.

Well personaly its a matter of prefence. If you have a healer, slower, tank and puller... The other classes don't really matter. You can just fill the last 2 slots with good friends that you know will make the group fun. I tend to go for the offencive over safer groups. So if I have all the required classes I'll most often take a rogue if theres one up...which is next to never on my server. If your not sure if you tank is gonna be able to tank the names of the camp without dieing alot id for for a druid or wizard for evca so that your corpse runs are much shorter. As I said its a matter prefence. It also depends on the camp. Some camps like WoS left wall have many names so I try to have a ranger for the 5th or 6th slot( not normaly as a puller as they tend to died if there paci spell fails) for there track ability. Every camp is diffrent and will change who is best suited for a group. I would always try to take the most skilled and no repeat classes, but personaly I try to take my friends if possable because even when we die we always seem to have alot more fun.
