Classes: The Shadowknight

Shadowknights - The evil warriors. A combination of fighter and necromancer, the shadowknight is a complex class to develop and play correctly.

What is the best strategy to develop and play your shadowknight? Can the shadowknight solo, and if so how? How should you play a shadowknight in a group? What skills and spells are the most and least useful for the shadowknight? What items should you be seeking for your shadowknight?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shadowknight and read, rate and comment on what others have to say

I posted a question on the BL forum hoping to get some advice, but will try the SK one now after receiving no suggestions. After playing a Necro & soloing to the top, all I really want to do now is solo. I have an SK & BL in the 50's. My question is: Which one can solo better from 60-75. Doesn't matter how long it takes. Thanks =)

At lower levels they could both solo pretty fast, the more twinked the better. For level 60+ though I think you would be able to solo better with the beastlord.

SK good - Good armor, half-decent combat spells, FD, snare, tap heals.
SK bad - low dps, medium downtime refreshing hp/mana between fights, no slows, weak buffs.

BL good - good dps with pet, half-decent combat spells, slows, heals, decent buffs.
BL bad - weak armor, no snare without pet aa, no crowd control (mez / root), no way to split (pacify / FD) now that pet pulling is nerfed.

The biggest drawback I see using beastlord is just trying to find the right camp to solo. You would want mobs that don't run unless you are pulling to a nice big open area with no adds around or if you have the pet snare aa. You would want to find camps where mobs are single pullable as much as possible or else break a camp so you can pick off respawns as they pop. With enough AA beastlords really crank out the dps.

The biggest drawback using shadowknight is just that you don't have slow available. At level 60-75 soloing will get harder and downtime will be longer as you fight harder hitting mobs. You'd be mostly kiting to solo good xp mobs or mass killing low xp mobs.

If you're used to soloing with a necro the kite method for SK should be easy enough for you. Beastlord soloing is all fighting though, you and your pet. BL pet lets you pay less attention while fighting easy mobs, tough mobs you want to be on your toes of course.

Thank you very much for the reply! I didn't know about SK's having lower DPS against mobs at higher levels. Your post was very helpful. Thanks again ;)

eh
I think sk's solo better than the beastlord.
And that's toe to toe soloing, not kiting.
Slows, if its really that big of a deal, you can get a willsapper to proc slow, then swap out.
SK's can solo all the way to 75, and still exp on good exp mobs (while lfg, ive solo'd in valdeholm and ashengate, as well as soloing the hand aug in tbs)
BL's are really limited on where they can solo, and what mobs.

With lower gear and/or aa's, I would have to say that Beastlords are easier to solo with. If you cant take the hits, you can back off and heal your pet while it tanks. As the AA's and Gear increase though, SK's start to come into their own. Touch of the Cursed AA (innate lifetap proc) paired with Soul Abrasion AA's (increase lifetap proc dmg) can max at a 614 lifetap proc thats always on, which helps both with DPS and heals. An SK vs a BST with equal level gear will have more HP and AC due to the plate vs leather armor difference. BST pets will hands down beat SK "pets" any day, but while it may take longer to kill the mob, the SK can take higher mobs than a equally geared BST. And of course, player skill has a lot to do with success as well. Plus side of SK's though, you pull a mob (or three) thats too hard, Feign Death will can save you. Beastlords have to run and pray.

I have both a 77 SK and a 77 BL. They both have decent gear and about 120 AAs. The BL can definately out DPS the SK and if he gets hurt in a fight, can back up, let pet tank and self heal. I love both char but, the BL is a better soloing class IMO. (My SK now has CS lvl 20/23 and takes a punch much better than he used to. My BL has CS 8/23 and does about the same.)
