Classes: The Shadowknight

Shadowknights - The evil warriors. A combination of fighter and necromancer, the shadowknight is a complex class to develop and play correctly.

What is the best strategy to develop and play your shadowknight? Can the shadowknight solo, and if so how? How should you play a shadowknight in a group? What skills and spells are the most and least useful for the shadowknight? What items should you be seeking for your shadowknight?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Shadowknight and read, rate and comment on what others have to say

I recently rolled an Ogre SK, and am having difficulty keeping my combat and defence skills up to my level. I have even had to go to the extreme of grouping with a toon high enough for me NOT to lvl while killing. It takes me roughly ten times the combat to skill up to my level than it does to get a new level. Currently my Ogre has STR 140 AGI 75 Dex 75 and im wondering if you guys can give me some advice.
questions;
Is there an optimum /con to skill up on. e.g only fight dark blues for optimum skill-ups per lvl?

Are there any important stat milestones to acheive for skilling weapon/defence skills, similar to the CHA milestones for trader prices.

Any advice in general, based on new players/ non-twinkers and on proggresion servers.

For the most part, the skills go up by 5 point max per level.

I think it was something like 10 for level 1 then 5 per level after? been a while.

best way to raise them, is to use them on dark blue or higher.

To raise the defense and combat skill up by having a friend with a high level shaman with pet. Duel the shaman.... send pet it... both skill went up fast. Make sure you have the buffs and htps maxed and a friendly cler near by to heal or the shaman do not go afk.

in my opinion,STA is more important than AGI,because you are Ogre, your HP is more than another class, although AGI can raise your defence, but the AGI will fall when you are overweight. And,in high level,SK need to group to raise the EXP quickly,so raise your STR,DEX and STA around 200 is a good choice...

I found a pet class friend to duel me.. shammys work well... they can heal you and send pet on you.. just /duel the pet and have him keep you alive.. your def. skills will move up pretty fast that way..

other than that.. it is just grouping and staying out of the MM's... remember you cant skill up in a MM.. they are only good for AA's

orges are slow when it comes to defense skills i've competed with my troll and my buddys orge sk 10 out of 10 times i ve all ways had more hp left over then he has he gets hit much more often and takes more damage too he has decent agility i think its at 200 or at lest above 190 and he's 3 lvls higher then me my troll has 166 agility and less hp then he has but i always end up better then he dose.

personaly i like orge warriors they get kick, duel weild, stun immunity and both there main stats str and sta are close to maxed but orges are a bad sk race.

To much of an sk is dependent on his defenses they don't get duel weid or kick in a warrior these make up for slow defense but not a SK.

Sorry, but I have to disagree here battlemastter.

Because Ogre sk's have so many useful combat abilities (as well as higher stats than any other race), they make the best shadowknights. Let's not compare apples to oranges - warriors are a totally different class. Let's look at some of the perks of an ogre sk:

Ogre SK advantages:

1. They have higher innate intelligence than trolls.

2. They have the highest base strength of any race.

3. They have the highest base stamina of any race.

4. They are welcome in other evil cities, unlike iksar.

5. They have improved night vision (infravision), unlike humans and erudites.

6. Ogres, and ogres alone, cannot be stunned from the front (for melee, not spells).

7. Ogres (and trolls and barbarians) get a "slam" attack, meaning they can weild a 2-handed weapon and still interrupt enemy spellcasting (plus do a little extra damage).

8. Racial experience penalties have been removed, making human, erudite, gnome, and dark elf sk's less competitive.

9. The recent "out of combat" hp/mana regen status makes troll and iksar regen largely useless, and again, makes ogres far more competitive.

Ogre SK disadvantages:

1. They don't have the ultravision of dark elves or frogloks (but they do get an ultravision spell).

2. They are big, making it hard to fit into some areas (but ant potions are cheap - around 5 plat each).

3. They are brutish-looking. Many female EQ players seem to hate the idea of playing ogres.

4. While they have higher INT than trolls, they are far below erudites and gnomes.

5. They don't get the drakkin breath weapon, which from what I've heard gets very powerful.

6. Drakkin SK's don't seem to have the faction issues other SK races do (again, this is based on heresay).

My "main alt" is a lvl 47 ogre shadowknight, and I created him in June of 01. I wouldn't change anything about him.

Just my 2 cents!

Up the dex for sure. Up the agi for defense skillups. Above 100 minumum. Shoot for 200 by level 50 or so. With buffs you will max (255 pre-61 or AAs).

Low levels, Harnessing of Spirit will sticl to up Dex among other things.

Seek out a Shammy for Dex/Agi buffs (and anything else!).

Don't forget your casting skills (Int for those, but you do not need to be in combat).

In old days when the ogre came out him not being stunned was correct fro mthe front. I have a 75 Ogre Warrior and if I had 5 plat for everytime he was stuned from the front I could retire.

Your combat skills are based off dex. Try to get ur dex up. Your important stats are AGI, Sta, Int, Dex, Str... just try to get all around 150+ and u will be fine.

no, thats bad. u need all stats up. as a tank, your armor class is a huge part of what keeps you from getting sliced to pieces. and you agi is directly related to that. maxed agi is a beautiful thing, makes you last longer in a fight, and healers wont be oom so quickly if your monk brings back a bad pull...

well my SK is a gnome, which is good mainly just for the high int, and that not quite everybody hates a gnome. though, these days that doesnt much matter. but as far as racially best goes, id say its ogre only because of the stun part. other than that i think trolls are better because they have regen, and they look cooler hehe.

"stats" don't really mean much later. They all get maxxed without even trying. That should never be a focus on gear choices.
The thing to focus on would be Shielding > Avoidance > AC > HP

Ogres are still unstunnable from the front, but, it is by "melee" stuns. A lot of mobs have stun abilities and spells now that go right through it.
