Classes: The Bard

Bards - the jack of all trades. Each level is a new song and a new way to play. Handy with a weapon and able to wear decent armor, bards can hold their own in a fight. Plus, the ability to twist two to three songs without using mana gives the bard a magical ability like no other class.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the bard? Can they solo, and if so how? How should they best contribute to the group? What is the best strategy to develop your bard? What skills and songs are the most important for you to master? What equipment should you be trying to get for your bard.

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the bard and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

One thing I've heard and seen with working with Bards is that they can twist songs. Meaning they can have more than one song going at a time. Now I'm entertaining the idea of leveling up my bard (she's only lvl 5 atm) but I haven't been able to figure out how to get more than one song going at a time. Is there a trick to it? They seem like they could be a fun class (and what little I've played of them has been fun) just difficult. So yeah. Advice, tips, tricks?

Bards used to have to switch manually from song to song. Fast typists had people in awe of their abilities. Now we have the /melody command. /melody 1,2,4,8,3 plays the song in the spell gem of that number over and over. Warning, there are a few songs that have too long a refresh time for this--typing still required.

last i played i didnt have much use of my instruments. due to armor upgrades and such (makes it all too easy imo) 2 weps and swing away. song set up as

/melody # # # # #

chop chaw and all that. mercs made it all tooooo easy as well.

lb killer that i am with a merc. anyhow

One correction: If you melody songs make sure that they dont have a recast time that is too long else the melody will stop. also make sure that the songs dont cancel eachother out and that they will work in the enviornment you are in. cant twist in a bard SOW indoors.

easy fun dot kite melody

/melody bard sow, dot fire, dot ice, dot poison, dot magic

requires a drum and 3ed person view. go in circles and dont hold your breath.

i like melee so i use:

/melody grp haste, aoe slow, grp wep proc, aoe anti-haste, regen.

somethin like that makes a grp happy.

Heres the low down, if you dont know already.

Pull up the macro screen.

Name of Macro (your choice)

(type) /melody (here is the spell jem number) 1-8 (# space # space# space #)

example. /melody 5 7 3 8 1 (this will play the songs in the spell gems 5 7 3 8 1 in that order repeatedly.)

accept the set up and move the macro to your hotbuttons.

Now if you chose songs that use instruments set up you Bandoleers. (B or shift B will bring up the bandoleer window)

In your primary have a weapon. In the secondary put an insturment. Name the Bandoleer after the instrument. click add and move to hot buttons.

do this for as many bandoleer slots you wish to use.

Now when you play the melody all you have to do is hit the hotbutton for the bandoleer instrument congurient with the song in the melody. do this in the last 1/5 bar of the current song in the melody and you will maximise the song effect without useing up all the time with one wep and instruent.

If you dont understand this, i think you'll figure it all out in 15 levels anyway.
