Classes: The Bard

Bards - the jack of all trades. Each level is a new song and a new way to play. Handy with a weapon and able to wear decent armor, bards can hold their own in a fight. Plus, the ability to twist two to three songs without using mana gives the bard a magical ability like no other class.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the bard? Can they solo, and if so how? How should they best contribute to the group? What is the best strategy to develop your bard? What skills and songs are the most important for you to master? What equipment should you be trying to get for your bard.

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the bard and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

What's up with the resists?

I've been fear kiting up until 31 in Blightfire. I headed over to Iceclad to try to AE kite the cougars. At 31 the cougars conned db to yellow. I tried to AE kite them but got resists at least half the time. So, I went back to Blightfire and have been trying to fear kite the slashclaws. Again, I've been getting resists to the chain and fear at least half the time. I went over to the treants which conned green to lb and tried to AE kite them. Again, I was getting resists at least half the time. I've been dual wielding to maximize damage. I tried fear kiting and AE kiting with different instruments (my instrument skills are maxed) and have had no luck on reducing resists. I even tried Fulfil's which is supposed to lower magic resistance and it didn't seem to make a noticable difference. Am I doing something wrong or is this a common occurance for anyone else. ATM, leveling is going very slow due to down time (from getting hit so often), lots of adds due to the mob resisting chain and the adds resisting fear. AND, as if that wasn't enough I seem to get stunned often which interrupts /melody. Any advice?

You will probably have to specify what AE kiting tactic you were using. If you are using the AoE DoT songs, you're SoL. They were nerfed a while ago. As for the fear resists I'm not really sure.

Yeah, I tried AoE kiting and found out the hard way that it doesn't work. Mainly I have been fear kiting dark blues in Blightfire, and tried fear kiting the cougars that were dark blue in Iceclad and keep getting a lot of resists. I could understand if the mobs I were kiting were yellow or red, but I've been sticking to the dark blues so I don't understand why I get so many resists.

try swapping your brass instrument into your hand just before the fear song finishes casting.

Not sure if this applies to bards, but it is true for lots of other casters and that is that cats in some zones are very resistant to spells. Anyone who has sat on the ramp in OT and admired how their spells keep bouncing off of the various cats have a real feeling for this.
