Classes: The Bard

Bards - the jack of all trades. Each level is a new song and a new way to play. Handy with a weapon and able to wear decent armor, bards can hold their own in a fight. Plus, the ability to twist two to three songs without using mana gives the bard a magical ability like no other class.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the bard? Can they solo, and if so how? How should they best contribute to the group? What is the best strategy to develop your bard? What skills and songs are the most important for you to master? What equipment should you be trying to get for your bard.

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the bard and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

man i think the dev should give us back some dignity and give our dots a boost would doing 300 damage with a normal drum at 65 be really overpowering us i think not it is sad when casters pet do more dps than us a class of players hehe just wanted to say it now its done

that would be too overpowered... the thing about bards is we arn't the best at anything.. we just rock at everything, right?

just the 2 cents haha =D
p.s. has soon as they make bards more powerful with dots, the sooner people are gonna bitch that bards are broken easy (in no way mages are!!) then they will be nerfed.. like AE kiting.

Aye mate.

Our DoT DPS isn't meant to be amazing, but merely a way to kite or add a bit of damage. We're still the Kings/Queens of kiting and pretty much the most efficient farmers at the high end. I also quite agree that if we had a DoT increase, they would end up nerfing another part of our vast abilities.

I am very curious how this is possible. I am a 75 Necromancer and I cannot imagine anyone matching a Necromancer's kiting prowess.

I really want to how Bards manage to kite better than Necromancers. I will level my Bard up if it is the case.

It all depends on the Bard's Skill to kite. If a bard can swarm kite 20 mobs.. its much faster than a necro aggro kiting.

I believe that is what he ment, 2cps =D

I see. So a Bard can DoT 20 or so mobs if they are skilled enough and just run around until they die? Theoretically, how long would it tale for a Bard to kite 20 mobs in one pull?

I knew about Bard AoE kiting and that it was reduced in power but I was not aware Bards had a super DoT kiting technique as well.

lol its not a super dot technique.. its being ABLE to kite.

We can only DoT 1 mob and they are VERY crappy dots. but we can put 4-5 dots on at once. (Whoopy?) yeah..

But bard kiting is where they can grab 20 mobs and CHARM 1 mob, have it attack the group. the group destroys the mob down to 5-10% in like 10secs and then the bard BREAKS charm and THEN DoTs that mob til dead. Rinse n Repeat

As before, the bard needs to have some good Skill (Experience, not skill points) To be able to DoT that hurt mob, while running from 19 mobs =D

I myself cannot do this (yet) but with some practice i'm sure i can. So if they description isn't what great, my bad=D

It used to be that bards could circle kite and their AE dots hit everything within range. 100 mobs? NP give me 15 to 20 minutes and their dead. Much like shakerpaging but if we get hit once or lag for a second 90% chance we die.

Charm kiting is still more efficient than any other kiting out there but takes a lot more skill than even the circle kite imo.

I decided to come back and clarify some of the points brought up in my original post.

My statement on bards being pretty much the most efficient farmers:
At higher end game, you can pull massive amounts of mobs that drop tradeskill items and use the AoE DoTs (mobs not moving in this case). It is highly efficient with the out of combat, and with the right AA's you can slash through thousands and thousands of plat rather quickly.

As for the kiting:
We are not necesarily the fastest kiters out there; however, we can swarm kite. This enables us to take rather large herds of mobs and reduce them to nothing rather quickly and very efficiently (especially with out of combat regen). Another reason is that with a bard and the right mob, you can be lazy.

Now although most bards will have some pride and say they've never done it, I'm sure everyone's done the "/Melody and Watch TV" kiting tactic. You can simply /melody your dots and merely refresh them as you see the /melody stop and get small amounts of xp while preoccupied.

Just my honest opinion. I'd be happy to explain anything else if need be, happy kiting bards =)

Well as much as I hate to admit it I am gilty of wathing T.V. or even a movie when charm kiting. Once in my younger days I was in a kiting grp twisting a 5 song kite on 2 mobs while holding agro (Yes it CAN be done) and I did this all while wathcing a movie. Upon telling my group this they freaked out a bit but did say I was one of the best damn bards they had seen. AHHH those were the days now I'm lucky if the group doesnt wipe at least once.
