Classes: The Monk

Monks - masters of hand to hand damage. The monk is a powerful fighting class. With their unique set of skills and need to keep their weight load down, monks are a very complex class to develop and play correctly.

What is the best way to develop your monk? Which skills should the monk concentrate on learning? What is the best fighting style for a monk? Can a monk be soloed, and if so how? How should a monk be played within a group? How can a monk best use his skills? What weapons and armor should you try to get for your monk?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Monk and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Goto Erudin from Toxx. There is a portal at the zone in that takes you up to the balcony. When you appear at the top, aim back toward the portal below and run forward. It might take you a bit to get the aim, but you should ultimately hit the portal and appear back up top. Auto run and walk away ~ Safe Fall (365)

Warning, if your safe fall skill is too low you may take damage from each fall. Monitor you health so you don't die.

Will this work for an Iksar without a ton of faction work?

I've spent enough time killing kobolds in The Warrens to get in good in Paineel, but I'm already a Cazic worshipper, and I imagine I have more to worry about in Erudin than just the High Guard.

Edit: Well, I tried it out. Put up my shroom pet just in case, and set up autorun. Took three falls before I got the direction right, and then I went and read a book. Starting with a skill of about 140, I took less than 100 damage total on my grind all the way up to 260 Safe Fall. I have to admit that this is THE BEST place I have ever seen to grind Safe Fall.

I was maxed within an hour or so, so I ran to the bay without incident (and apparently High Guard faction covers ALMOST everyone) and left him swimming in circles and went to bed. At some point during the night, a pirhana attacked me and died by riposte damage, but I maxed swimming, too.

As long as you don't go into Erudin any further than the portals, the only Erudians you need to worry about are the 2 guards at the zone-in in Toxx. Once you get passed them, you can safe fall without any interference. Just remember to sneak or invis passed the guards again when you leave.

I can confirm that this still works as of the date of this posting as I just leveled my monk up to 260... Not sure how long it took to get the last 60 points (200 to 260) but I looked at it after 4 hours and it was done and still going on.

Side note, teleport up, aim for the junction of the line as it crosses the teleporter below. Hit run, see if you hit the porter, once you have the aim properly set watch it for a bit, as a tad of drift will have you 4 hours of running into a wall ... note that going over the rail *MAY* cause you to drift as well.

BUt once set you can go for hours.

Tried this today and I couldn't get more then 5 repeats before it would stick to the balcony rail and throw you off track. Usually it would stick after 3 times or less. Spent an hour trying to get it too work and then gave up. They might have slightly changed the rail height to keep people from doing this. I'm sure this worked at some point in time but it isn't working these days at least not on my machine.

My lvl 9 Drakkin Monk entered Erudin safely (guards conned apprehensive and merchants conned dubious).

Falling from the balcony still works fine but occasionally you have to make a little jump just as you reach the railing.
