Classes: The Monk

Monks - masters of hand to hand damage. The monk is a powerful fighting class. With their unique set of skills and need to keep their weight load down, monks are a very complex class to develop and play correctly.

What is the best way to develop your monk? Which skills should the monk concentrate on learning? What is the best fighting style for a monk? Can a monk be soloed, and if so how? How should a monk be played within a group? How can a monk best use his skills? What weapons and armor should you try to get for your monk?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Monk and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

The sheetmetal ulak is fine, I reccomend replacing the sambata (sp?) with either a Fist of Iron if you like procs, or a Entwood Mace for pure damage. Fist of Iron goes for 11k on my server (Luclin) and Entwood Mace goes for 12.5k. Because I don't trust procs for my damage I would go with the entwood mace.

For your armor, there are not many choices I can give you. The sleeves I would take Hardened Grey Flesh without blinking. They go for 6k on my server. They make great upgrades to your slot. I don't know what to say for the shoulders, I've been looking for a replacement for my Acrylia Reinforced Mantle also. Head slot I think the Shissar Scale Headband is just fine for now. Just my opinion but I think the Crown of the Hive is very nice if you really want an upgrade though, drops off a Luclin mob somewhere and not sure of price. For leg slot I would take the Skyshrine armor quest. And chest slot I would go either Skyshrine armor or a Phase Spider Carapace if you can spare the 5 stones, it goes for 11k on my server.

For your cash problems there are several places. I personally liked the Geonids in Crystal Caverns. You can do Rathe Mountains, but because they drop coin as their loot you will: A) Need a partner or mule to put the cash on, or B) run to the gem dealer in zone and buy them to keep your weight down and resell later for a slight cash loss. Because of this I like the Geos, they drop gems and there is a merchant and bank in zone. Good luck!

Edit: I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier but a Stave of Shielding makes a great offhander and it's not too expensive, goes for about 3k on my server. And if you want a nice 2hb I reccomend getting something nice but not too expensive like a imbued Fighter Staff, 4k-5k. Sure it's not that great, but it will get the job done until you can go for some of the nice no-drop 2hbs. I'd take that over T-staff and Staff of Flowing Water because they're just too expensive. Just level yourself up and get into a good guild, a couple of my favorite 2hbs dropm in ToV and it's not hard to find a guild to raid there. Good luck!

One big problem I found on my server in Crystal Caverns is that if you leave the geonids to run to the bank, some enterprising bst or necro WILL come along and take the camp from you. It takes a LONG time to get this camp in the first place usually. Just a little FYI.
