Classes: The Rogue

Rogues - Masters of Stealth. With a variety of completely unique skills, and a fighting style all their own, rogues can be one of the more difficult classes to learn to develop and play correctly.

How should you play your rogue to best take advantage of his strengths and weaknesses? What skills are the most useful, and what is the best way to use those skills? Can a rogue be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your rogue in a group? What equipment should you be searching for?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Rogue and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

As of March 2006, the doors in Befallen are no longer locked. Thought I'd save some young rogues the trouble of traveling there in the hopes of skilling up.

I hope thats a temporary bug.
That was one of the main nice things about Befallen. Killing the sk's to get the keys to go lower.

As of this past week being the week of March 13-20 I found the doors locked unless I had my picks or a key in hand. I had to go to Befallen to get the Ice Boned Skeletons for my Toxicology Trophpy b/c the ones in EF were in hiding.
This may just have been a bug on your server b/c I am on Firiona Vie and as I said they were locked.

MAX YOUR LOCKPICK from 0 to 210 in 6 or 7 minutes
#6 May 31 2006 at 2:20 AM Rating: Decent
I guess since NONE of you seem to know I better let ya know. YOU DONT NEED Befallen anymore anyway. You can Max your Lockpick out in like 6 or 7 minutes from 0 to MAx 210. Oh you are skeptical are we. Well let me tell you the 1 great secret to it. Go to Plane of Tranquility once you zone in have your trusty lock pick on cursor and look at Book on Table HUGE book standing up on table. Start Clicking until your fingers hurt. You can picklock it as FAST AS YOUR FINGERS can click your mouse button. In about 6 or 7 minutes of Clicking like mad you will be maxed out. GOD help me for letting you all know this secret. It has been kept kinda on the low as a sceret among rogues. Never have found out if its a BUG or what but I have been playing my Rogue on Xegony server since 2001 and have been able to do this since I started. So go zone in and get to clicking. Don't applaude just throw money. You all OWE ME one. :)

You do know that there are over a dozen threads here that suggest using the book in PoT, right? Also, most people don't want to wait until 46 to train up their lockpicking skill.

You do Know Obviously No ONE HERE KNOWS THAT!!!!! IF they DID they would not be complaing about it. Also it takes like no time to get level 46. Am I missing something. Think I read like all the post and well dont see anyone else Telling them " hey theirs a dozen posts about what I just wrote." Sounds like your Flaming me for like saying it like they know or something. With almost a thousand Posts am willing to bet if i go reading them I'll find more flaming. heh..I rarely make posts but was bored and seen the thread. Read the other posts and well offered them a Solution to their problem. I have better things to do than go reading posts then flaming people for trying to help.

Hmmm...Usually I have something witty to say, but all I can say is this...
Shut up!

Anyone doing 30 seconds of reaserch can find out about the PoT book! You act like you are doing the world a favor by posting info that everyone already knows! This thread wasn't about Befallen being a great place to Lockpick either! It was just saying for anyone pre-46 that you might as well not try Befallen as it doesn't work (which is still diffiuclt to tell. I know there is atleast one door there that does [I leveled to lvl 100 there])! Think before you spam info that everyone already knows!

"Sounds like your Flaming me for like saying it like they know or something."
They DO know that! And, this may be just me, but I've always thought that flaming was reserved for people who were being insulted for no reason. You are being insulted because you are an idiot...But thats just me.

The door in befalled still works it just a different door now. I used it about a month ago. I also showed a couple rogue's the new location. So yes there is a door in befalled that still works to lvl you up to 200+

I found that about two weeks ago, the top door (Splintered Wooden Key) was unlocked. I kind of said "Well that's not cool, it's been locked for years!" so I went further in. The other two doors were locked as they should be. Dunno why.

This zone hasn't seen much traffic lately since all the new uber leveling zones (see Paludal Caverns) came out. This makes me sad, but now I'm just ranting. The moral of the story is if you're a young rogue looking to skill up picklocks, you might try the second or third doors.

I found the rock which opens the Paineel city entrance just as pickable and a bit quicker to train on than usint the Hole rock in the water.

If you stay hidden - more a prank, but keeping young Erudian death dealers locked inside or preventing them from returning home is such a hoot!

Or just being nice and opening the entrance before they can find their own key.

absolute best way to skill up lock pick is go to plane of tranquility and lock pick the floating book on the table. youll see it. can go all the way to 300 right there.

That is not an option for any player under level 46, since that is the minimum level required to zone into Plane of Tranquility.

There is a locked door at the Inn on the bottom floor of Crescent Reach you can practice on.

For those coming across this post years later, i can verify that as of 6/3/2012 you can still got to PoT and stand facing the rotating book for lock pick skill ups. It doesn't matter which direction you face as long as the lock pick set is on your cursor and you are facing the book. Then just spam your U key for easy skill improvements. I went from 24 to 224 (at level 46) in about 20 minutes while watching the season 2 finale of Game of Thrones!
