Classes: The Rogue

Rogues - Masters of Stealth. With a variety of completely unique skills, and a fighting style all their own, rogues can be one of the more difficult classes to learn to develop and play correctly.

How should you play your rogue to best take advantage of his strengths and weaknesses? What skills are the most useful, and what is the best way to use those skills? Can a rogue be soloed, and if so how? How should you play your rogue in a group? What equipment should you be searching for?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Rogue and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

I played EQ a while ago, I was a Lv.32 Rogue. I never once found something I could pick other than a bank door in FP. Is this skill a valuable skill?

The best place is PoT(ranquility). I went last night. Started with a skill of 105. Left with it maxed at 210, and only took me like 20 mins.

Zone into PoT. There is a floating book on a table as soon as you zone in. The table can be picklocked, although it opens nothing. Sit there and chain click it until your skill maxes out. It is the BEST way to get your skill up.

Of course you have to be lvl46 to get into PoT.

It's not used very often, but when your group needs you to do it, you'd better be an expert. I trained my rogue at the entrance to Paineel (as I've stated in about 10 posts here on the subject, lol). Best place to do it IMHO.

Aye, Paineel got me to 150. I did the Hole till 200 (As in next to the Warrens, there is an underwater rock that is pickable). Once you get past 11, you can do Befallen....thats good too. Thats what I did pre- 46.

On the question of usefulness, the hole is a great example, rogues can bypass the key quest and gain direct access. There are a few other areas like this though rare. The hole has become more popular due to the DoN armor quest for many races requiring hunting there.

PP is also useful in Venril Sathir raids in Karnor's Castle. Also PP is needed in City of Mist for Jade Reaver drop for druid and ranger epics, I recall people offering lots of plat for a rogue who could PP at max to come to CoM for raids for that epic drop.

Its not the most important skill but has its uses here and there.

i'd also like to add the sheer pp making potential of lockpicking. when higher lvl toons need a door opened and the dont have a rogue or the appropriate key,..then there you are!!1.. in the right place with the skills to please. i've made as high as 5k plat to tag along w a group of lvl 50+ people and was given a share in the loot to boot. so for u lower level rogues, go train up!! and another good place to practice for the lower lvls (46 and under) is the door in paniel..jus grab some lockpicks have a seat and start clicking the rock that activates the elevator to paniel(stay to the right after u zone in from Tox. forest and dont fall into the hole:)
Happy picking!!!

Was just at Old Paineel tonight. It let me continue to Pick Lock past 200. It did slow down at around 230. I'm gonna head to that book in PoT now. At lvl 72 my max Pick Lock skill is set at 328. We'll see how far that book takes me.
