Classes: The Enchanter

Enchanter - the game's traffic cop. When the enchanter yells stop, creatures cease what they are doing and just wait to die. A complex class, enchanters get a variety of spells as well as a pet, and can be played in a number of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play an enchanter? What spells are most and least important? Can an enchanter be soloed, and if so how? What skills are the most important for an enchanter? How should an enchanter be played in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Enchanter and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Hello,
I have dusted off a lowbie (32) Enchanter that I had made several years ago and while I was combining pages I had collected, mesmerization was created. If you remember, its a lvl 16 targeted AE that I never had and decided to use it for the first time last night. Lower Guk, bad spider pull was the scene and I popped the AE mez. To my surprise, I was mezzed right along with the spiders. Here is the question, I am assuming that this spell mezzes ALL around the target and if so that means the tank, what is the application to this spell? Can it be used duoing? If things get bad I mez the whole show from afar and then re mez with the longer duration single target on?
Thanks for any clearification on this.

AE mezzes landing on self and group members are a good argument for ensuring that you and those around you have as high MR as is possible. Keep your group buffed with GoD or Endure Magic at all times if you are planning on using AE mezz. Another hint: if you are taking mobs that are capable of mezzing you despite your MR precautions, low level dots cast on yourself/group members will break those mezzes.

That low level AE mezz is sketchy at best. As far as I know the mezz will only hit a maximum of 4 mobs at a time, one of those can be you if the targeted mob is too close to you when it goes off.

The application was pretty straight forward, you would cast that when a puller had many in tow, and then snap single mezzes for a longer duration. With that mezz, it really never came about as being a highly user-friendly spell.

It is now found in the higher levels under the wake line that is great for certain higher level raiding encounters. The Sendaii event comes to mind for me, but maybe Sisters in Demi plane when all else fails and your raid is wiping.

Ultimately that spell is a liability. It is better to stick with the single mezzes until higher levels. This is opposed to the PBAE mezz/stun lines that we get too. Those can be very helpful on small groups and duoing with a cleric or wizard who is PBaeing many mobs for farming or power leveling.

Dumb question...

Are you on a PVP server?

If so the all the above apply.

If not, you can ONLY mezz yourself not your group mates. Do not worry about mezzing the tank or cleric it will not happen on a blue server.

I'm pretty sure that your group mates CANNOT be mezzed by you. You can only mez yourself and your foes. In fact a good tactic (ok ... I'm a recently returning after a long hibernation player) was to target your Tank and then use the AE mez ... from a safe distance, of course. This is the same principle as you being able to nuke yourself (for skill practice, of course) but you can't nuke your group mates.

I never liked the AE mez because of its short duration and the fact that I couldn't then overwrite it with a single target longer duration one. I think that that was fixed long ago and you can overwrite it now but don't hold me to that. AE mez could be used as a bad pull buy some time so the group can zone kind of spell if nothing else. Oh ... and teach your puller NOT to stand next to you when they come back to camp with "friends". Very bad.

AE mez has come along way from when it was first put into the game. Now all the mezzes overwrite each other, and the AE mezzes last the same length of time as a single target one. Only real downside are resists. Where i seem to be using AE mezzes most now adays are high end raiding where i have to lock down multiple mobs at one time pop an ae mez, come back in about 1 min, redo, snag any that got resisted. Having the mez mastery AA, and a decent detrimental extension foci and you can get a really long mez timer out of it.
