Classes: The Enchanter

Enchanter - the game's traffic cop. When the enchanter yells stop, creatures cease what they are doing and just wait to die. A complex class, enchanters get a variety of spells as well as a pet, and can be played in a number of different ways.

What is the best way to develop and play an enchanter? What spells are most and least important? Can an enchanter be soloed, and if so how? What skills are the most important for an enchanter? How should an enchanter be played in a group?

Post your strategies on how to best play and develop the Enchanter and read, rate and comment on what others have to say.

Well if you have the latest expansion go to Cresent reach and go into a cave with young pumas and enjoy the tranquility But when going through Blight Moor dont stop running and steer away from any monster otherwise splat you a one hit wonder to them If i can run it at 1st level you can swing it.

I think you picked one of the most complicated classes to play. In my opinion only bard is harder.

It is very hard to tell someone else hints on how to play. It is a class that is so varied and so versital that what works for 1 person may not work for another. For instance Some people will tell you Charm Charm Charm. Personally I don't like to charm. That doesn't make them wrong, just not my personal preference.

I prefer grouping. I prefer pulling 5 mobs at once and let me deal with it.

For a LOT of reading Visit The Runes great Enchanter Specific site. Also there is our offical Sony forums. SO very good nuggets come out of there.

Unfortunatly I think you will find most conversations geared to the higher end as that is where most the population is. Still you can pick up a lot of good info and ask for clarifications on that which you don't understand.

As breeze put it, it's hard to tell people how to play an enchanter cause it varies for all people, Charming is one aspect of what we do. We're the only class in the game( maybe bard i forget) that can charm just about anything that isn't tagged immune to charm. This is good since they denerfed charm so pets hit for reasonable numbers, hated charming where my pet would do 50 damage, against same con mobs that would normally hit for 500+. In groups we take on a diffrent role, we're buffers, debuffers, and Crowd Control. We buff with mana regen spells, magic resist spells, and haste spells. We can debuff with slows, cripple line( does help with mobs that rampage/enrage that i've seen), and our Tash line of spells to drop magic resists.
Our Crowd Control is the best around, Bards have to remez every 6 seconds with their songs, Enchanters are the only class that have the longest duration mezzes, when we have all our mez aas and a duration buff. We have point blank aes that last 6 seconds but mez anything and everything around us, and area of effect mezzes that can mez up to 4 mobs sometimes 5 for 30 seconds on average maybe a little longer with aas and foci.
Our pets aren't something to depend on at low lvls up till you get aa capabilities, our pets are worthless(even with the aas their worthless) our pets do not attack on command till your hit. Have to purchase aas to make them attack on command and they still don't do nearly as much damage as a charmed pet.
Damage wise as an enchanter, our nukes are nothing compared to a mage or wizard, or necro, and are dots but we can still be that deciding factor in a kill or not every bit of damage helps, I tend to dot every mob that i can cause even if i don't kill the mob, i get a faction hit for doing damage to it.

There are a few threads deeper in the forums about level up an enchanter. The information you seek is in those. Obviously, everyone has their own way of leveling, but there are similar strategies employed by every chanter out there. Start experimenting with your spell lines, we get an array of spells that cover the whole spectrum of abilities. MOst of these lines are very useful, some are just plain stupid, but interesting nonetheless.
