Hasina's Guide to Baking in Neriak and other evil areas

HASINA’S GUIDE TO BAKING IN
NERIAK AND OTHER EVIL AREAS

I have seen many guides to baking, but most of the suggested recipes I have seen are not possible to create in the evil side of Norrath.  Therefore I am creating this guide to help the evil baker become a master baker with the least expense.  My way takes a little extra time, and I do recommend starting at level one, if possible.

First of all I suggest buying a spit (portable grill), however the only place I know of near Neriak that sells one is East Freeport.
Fortunately, being a rogue, this was not a problem, since I can ‘sneak’ behind merchants and get whatever I want.

Second of all SAVE ALL YOUR SNAKE EGGS!  Also, since they are ‘edible’, make sure you keep them below your food.  Snake eggs are required if you wish to get better than 135 at baking.

The easiest recipe to make in Nektulos for a beginner is Wolf Meat Sandwiches.  Simply take a loaf of bread, which you can buy in the Refined Palate (Neriak DownUnder, near the Bank), and some meat off of the black and shadow wolves (make sure it is labeled wolf meat and not chunk of meat) and combine in an oven or a spit.  (The official recipe says ‘mixing bowl’, but this is WRONG!)

While you’re working on those wolf meat sandwiches (and DO watch out for the bits of fur while you’re eating them), hang on to all the bear meat and spider legs you come across.  That’s spider legs, not spiderling legs, folks.

After wolf sandwiches become trivial (26), you can make bear meat sandwiches to 31, or you can go straight to wolf or bear steaks (bear/wolf meat, jug of sauces, spices in a spit or oven).  Both steaks trivial at 47.

If you’re a slow baker (like I am), you may find yourself in Oasis to hunt before you become trivial at steaks.  No bother, baking in Oasis is awesome, turning crappy loot into awesome food that sells.  You can turn one measly gator meat into two jars of pickled gator (vinegar, jug of sauces, gator meat in a spit or oven) and they sell for about 2sp each.  All pickled items are trivial at 50.

If, however, you find yourself succeeding at baking more often than gaining experience, it may be a good idea to make beer braised wolf and bear now.  Combine a short beer with a wolf/bear meat and spices in a spit/oven.

The next step you have two options:

1. You can take the easy way and go to Neriak Commons (where the bank is).  Run back and forth from the Refined Palate to the Merchant by the docks, and buy components to make Fish Fillets (jug of sauces and fresh fish in a spit or oven).  This is perhaps the most profitable item in all of baking, so get used to scraping scales off of your spit.  Fish Fillets become trivial at 82.  (I should also mention you can fish for your fresh fish in the same zone, just buy bait and a pole from the merchant by the water and try your luck at it.)

2 Remember all those stackable spider legs you’ve been saving?  You can make candied spider legs with them, by combining one leg in a spit with spices and frosting.  These are quite tasty, but I would recommend against eating them if you are a caster.  You will never be able to burn all the calories necessary when all you do is cast spells!  Candied spider legs trivial at 88 (or so I’ve heard), so these are also a good way to get above the Fish Fillet trivial level.

To get above 88, you have a few options.

1. Bread:  Sounds good in theory, but you need a new bread tin (created via smithing) every time you make it.  You also waste precious snake eggs.  Recipe is one clump of dough and a bread tin in an oven.  No one is sure when this item becomes trivial.
? Fish Head Soup: Have a smith or a potter make you a pot.  As long as you combine everything according to the recipe, you will get the pot back whether you succeed or fail.  For this recipe you will need a fresh fish, a flask of water (purchased only), a jug of sauce, and a pot in a spit.  This trivials at 90.

2. Fishrolls: Very easy to make if you travel to Oggok, since there are merchants in the city that sell both the components for this recipe.  Combine fish wings and a fresh fish in a spit or an oven.  These trivial at 135, and most bakers prefer this recipe.

To get past 135, you will need to make pies and chocolate treats.  I will include this in a future article, since I am still experimenting with these treats.  Have fun and remember, get a thick leather apron if you plan on making fish head soup.  You don’t want to scald yourself removing that pot from the spit!
