If yous be a big Ogre like me, den you know the way we like to eat! It is tough duty getting dis big, and I found da perfect way ta get der! Yous need ta becomes a baker like Drumdrum! Me not very smart, so me have me Dark Elfy say friend what I do, so he tell yous dar rest! Just remember, it take a lot of fud to get big!
Ahem! I am Jourus Ke’lith, and I will be, how do you call it, "Language Ambassador" for my friend Drumdrum. He maybe slow witted, but he can bake like no other to be known! This guide is to serve as a reference for those starting baking. Baking is VERY profitable, and can serve you in your travels.
First and foremost is your training. Go to your guild and place 20 points into baking. If you are an Ogre like Drumdrum, your low intelligence needs something to offset the learning curve.
Next you need to find out where your venders are. Fortunately, there are 3 food component venders in Oggok and the near by Ferrot. Bup stands by his house in the Ferrot. He is near the blue statue right by the path. He is the main staple for your food buying needs. He sells Jugs of Sauce, Vinegar, Garnish, Frosting, Milk, Flour, and spices. Also, he sells just about all of the baking books you can find. Next we Chef Dooga. She sells a lot of pre-made food, but most importantly, she sells an unlimited number of fish. Oh wait, Drumdrum has something to say….
And remember, as perty as dat Dooga iz, she don’t like dem Trolls too much. So if yous a Troll, you better stays awayz frum hur.
Thank you Drumdrum…. No where was I? OH YES! Venders! Your third vender is Grak in the Shaman guild. He sells an unlimited amount of batwings.
So now you have your points allocated, and you know where the venders are, what next? AHHH! THE OVEN! The oven in Oggok is located in the room with the dead end hall way near the Alchemy with the floating skull. Even though the oven is in a convenient place, Drumdrum STRONGLY suggest that you get a spit. It works just like an oven, but it travels. You can get these in Freeport. (Drumdrum says "Jus gets ones of dem humans get it, and giv dem some fud fer it")
You will need about 20 pp to master baking. First go to Bup in the Ferrot. Purchase half your total carrying space in Jugs of Sauce. Next, go to Chef Dooga and purchase your remaining room in fish. You will start by trying to make fishcakes. You open up your Spit or the oven, and you place one fish and one Jug of Sauce inside. Press the combine button and hope for the best! If you are successful, then you will receive 2 fishcakes in return. You can keep making fishcakes until your are of skill level 83. What is it Drumdrum?
Tell dem dat dat isn’t enough to become a masta like mes!
Yes, I was just getting to that. If 83 isn't a high enough skill level for you, then you can continue on by making fish rolls. This is done by combining a batwing and a fish in an oven or a spit. If you do it right, then you receive a fish roll in return. You should be able to raise your skill level up to 125 with the fish rolls, and you will have the status of "Master Baker."
Dat Not all! Tell dem bout all dem shinnies you can get baking!
I was getting to that… It is true. Baking is very profitable. You can make 30 pp an hour if you are a master at baking. Baking is the only – at least to my knowledge – trade skill that you can sell back to the venders at a profit. This is how you do it. You definitely should have a spit; it saves a lot of time, and makes you more money. You need to buy 500 Jugs of sauce, and 500 Fishes. You combine them all right there by the vender, and sell them in clumps of 20 as you make them. Fishcakes sell back for 2 copper more then what you can make them at, but remember you make 2 every time you are successful. If you factor in failures, you are looking at 980 fishcakes to sell back! That over doubles your money! That is, of course, if you don’t eat the profits as you work…
HUR HUR HUR! Me so big, it a wonder I make anything at all!
Yes Drumdrum, you are getting thick around the waistline there.
Yous watch it; I might bash yous gud! You make a gud pie… HUR HUR HUR!
Ahhh… yes…. Well then… Baking has some other excellent applications as well, ESPECIALLY if you know where to go! There are several places that you can hunt and pick up components that you need. How many times have you been out hunting and you have come across a piece of meat? Instead of selling it for 6 copper, or just throwing it away, why not turn it into a steak? Or even a sand which?
Here is a list of zones that a baker excels in, and the recipes for those regions:
Oasis: LOTS of gator meat here, and most of the time it is lying around. Combine it with spices, and a jug of sauce, and you have gator steaks!
Cazic Thule and The Ferrot: Lots of lizard meat here. Combine it with Jugs of sauce, and vinegar and you have Pickled Lizard.
Karanas: Lots of wolfs and lions running around. Combine Wolf meat with bread to make a Wolf sandwich. Combine the Lion with Spices and short beer and you have Beer Braised Lion.
Innothule: Lots of frogloks mean lots of froglok meat. Combine it with Jugs of Sauce and Vinegar to make Pickled Froglok meat.
Southern Desert of Ro: There aren't many components here, but you can get the poetry sketches that you need for the higher level baking components (The smoker, muffin tin, skewers, cookie cutters, etc.) What Drumdrum says he has found to work is to buy the sketches you need, an have a pottery expert make them for you.
Also, any of dem places wit dem big spiderz, you can bash dem fer der legs. You mix dem with sum frosting and yous get dem Spider crunchies!
How appalling… No wonder I am a vegetarian. Well, Drumdrum and I sure hope this guide helps you on your way to becoming a better baker. We hope to see you around the banquet table soon! (If you ever ARE at a banquet table with Drumdrum, make sure you get in line before him….)
Tanks Everyone!
