Proc Rate Adjusted
# Apr 20 2005 at 1:36 PM Rating: Decent
From the devs at SoE
-----
Dawnfire Morning Star of Light, & Staff of the Undead Legions

The proc rate on both of these weapons was increased to compensate for the lower damage.

How much will one of these run nowadays? I saw one on the Zeb server (great market for buying, pisspoor for selling -- everything is cheap) for 400pp. I realize some of these posts are a year or two old, so of course the price has dropped, but has it dropped this much? Or should I have bought it and turned around to sell it for 1500pp profit?
if u got one ...?
# Feb 04 2002 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
could u please tell me how close you need to be to target for the undead DD to work ? i mean can i be a safe distance away from target and it still protect , or do i need to be in melee position ?

well, i dont know about this wepon in general but with a lot of caster wepons especially, you can stand far away and it will still proc if u have auto attack on. It will not proc as often and you will get the annoying target is to far message, but like with sarnak summoners dagger it might proc from afar.

Judging from previous posts, this is a PROC, not a click effect. The type is listed as Combat (which is usually how procs are listed) and not as Triggered (as a click-effect is normally listed) So I would say you have to be close enough to swing the staff at the mob to use the effect.

I love my staff!
# Nov 08 2001 at 2:57 PM Rating: Decent
I just won this staff in Fear off of Fright, and my god is it a valuable solo'ing weapon for us necro's. Especially for me, only being a level 47 necro.

For example,
I darkness, fear, send pet, throw on a dot or 2, and chase with my new staff! 585dd instantly and uninterruptible! I've already had it proc 2-3 times per kill (and I have 100dex).

Anyhow, any necro that thinks this is junk, doesn't know what thy are talking about. And no it isn't right clickable..that would be insane.

Personally, I'd love an item like this while taking on a nasty undead Mob with a group/raid. Most often, if you manage your aggro well, you should be in close w/i melee range while casting for best chance of sticking your spells. Why the heck not have a weapon going at the same time so during those spots where your not actually firing off a spell you may have a chance of proccing? It's about getting the most for your money :) As far as the risk of acquiring aggro? Hey that's what harmshield is for.

A friend of mine gave me one of those last nite. At first I didn't think it was good, but I looked up the DD and 585points of damage is awesome. I dunno how much this baby is worth and I would like to know. If anyone can help, lemme know.

According to eqprices.com, it's worth 22k
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 10 2001 at 3:35 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'd rather purchase a COCW and Brawl stick as a caster, for melee!

How often do you see a Necro meleeing after 50? Never. How often do you see a Necro meleeing after 15? Once every 32 of the month.

That's the junkiest junk of all junks, considering the difficulty of the MOB (takes at least 3 55+ groups). I would'nt even put that on a twink, since it must have a lower level, and it doesn't even have stats.

I am level 54 necro. I melee often. I use a procing weapon, vamp embrace, jumpy robe, dex buff, haste buff. I can do an extra 3-400 points in a fight while healing myself. I have no need to med like conventional casters.
RE: Junk

I'm a 26th Iksar Necro and I melee all the time. I can take on mobs that are even or one level higher, solo and only die if I'm VERY stupid. Here's the routine:

1. Cast pet
2. Cast shield
3. Cast banshee aura (key point!)
4. Find mob white or yellow, and cast leech
5. Run back to pet, and let pet start attacking
6. Cast HF, SV, SoP
7. Mob usually attacks me at this point.
8. Melee while renewing Leech and spiking to taste

Since the mob is taking damage from pet, HF, leech, banshee, my pitiful weapon (but no banshee if I don't melee) and occasional spike, it goes down FAST.

I need to rest about 30 sec to a minute between fights, and I gain about a yellow an hour (just under).

Ok, not to make you feel inadequate or anything, but as an erudite necro, lvl 24, I was soloing forest giants in Warsliks Woods, blue mobs? bah, too easy, white mobs? they a little tuffer, yellow mobs? they were my prime target, red mobs? i lived for those, heres my strategy.

Have pet up, max health, pull using darken, of course, DoT on the way in to pet, sic pet, let pet take aggro, proced to nuke the giant, pull aggro offa pet, kite giant around a bit, pet catches aggro, repeat, generally, red mobs, pet would die, I would have to FD, let dots wear off, then stand up and cast a last tap, and that was usually the end of the giant and my mana bar, and would put me to about half health, was doing all this unbuffed, which if I wasnt a stupid necro then, id of known better, altho i have learned quite a bit in 25 levels, as far as this weap that everyone forgets to mention in their posts, After level 50 which I am now, i am currently using a gnoll hide tome and stien of moggok. Yes i know, there is better, and this is a newbie look, but thats 20 int in my hands, along with other stats, and you can make up for the str loss from tome quite easily, I personally would not use this weapon, just my opinion.

Red mobs are too much resists and downtime. Its always best to take blues/evens if you have can keep pulling. Unless your ubertwinked its best to get more exp over time, then per kill. Seeing those big jumps in exp is great... but then having to rest for a few minutes afterwards sucks.

Yes, they do resist alot, but the camp I had, was a 3 spawn, by the time i was medded up to about half and had a buffed pet up, the other 2 spawns would be back. It all worked out nicely. And being able to take the occasional red was a little boost for the confidence, which is a major plus when playing a necro. I for one have had points of no confidence and high confidence, no confi, cant solo lght blues, high confidence, well, taking all 3 IG camps in everfrost without a break, one pops, and bam, i got him, /shrug tis just a phase i got thru that others may as well.

This staff is not useless it is awsome!!

I admit it isnt going to be useful against Cazic Thule, or Trackanon, but i use this staff all the time when farming.

Equip your tola's robe and farming in guk becomes a breeze =) Put Vampiric curse on and you hardle loose any life =)

great in Tower of Frozen Shadow, on those long spawn times, you can spring in their with your club and start dishing out the damage,

a 585 proc is a force to be reconed with!

Well, I just got one of these on sale cheap. I don't know why the fellow was so anxious to sell, but I figured I'de better buy it and I could find out if I could proc it later. I didn't think the proc would be at SOO high a level. I'm only 30th and have a life, so it sounds like I have a long wait ahead. Perhaps I'll put it on the market for 6 or 8kpp (Fennin Ro). If it didn't take up both hands, I would just use it, but w/o proc, it isn't worth putting down my SoM.

I melee all the time with my Staff of Writhing and a 97 Dex -- your a necromancer, not a pixie! And when you throw Word of kill-anything-within-10-feet in a room, you are gonna' to be in melee anyway! When the healer is sweating it, I grab up some health and often aquire the agro intentionally for a few seconds.

I love it when I out proc tanks... often twice in a melee! I want more DEX! :-)

It's worth a *whole* lot more than 1k. /chuckle. If you find someone selling at that price, I'll buy 10. Hrmmm... better make it 20.

The proc is a 585 undead DD - very nice, because this staff seems to have a really high proc rate... generally 1 out of every 6 or 8 blows will proc on average, from the tests I've done (haven't used it that much so far). And my 2h blunt skill stinks...

It is being dropped by the Golems in Fear now that Draco and CT have been buffed. Fright, at least, definitely has this item in his loot table.
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 20 2001 at 2:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) could someone on the povar server get this for me i will pay 1000pp my name is kentel

Im not sure if you will get one for that price. Ive been to quite a few fear raids and only seen one drop. On top of that ive never ever seen one of these for sale.

Good luck though =D
Proc?
# Dec 24 2000 at 3:37 AM Rating: Default
Is the effect a proc or a right-clickable effect?
RE: Proc?
# Jan 21 2001 at 3:37 AM Rating: Excellent
If you look up where it says Type:Random, it means its a proc. If it had said Type:Triggered it would mean that it is right-clickable.
